So, Where have you been?

Sometimes time passes by like dripping honey…sometimes like the liquify setting on a blender. It’s been like the latter lately. It’s not like I haven’t been eating or shooting or generally cavorting with food these past few weeks…just not blogging about it.  Life gets in the way of our pleasurable pursuits at times and this space unfortunately suffered from that eventuality lately.

I do have a few exciting food related things to share with you.  Yesterday, I was part of a group of five New York based food photographers to participate in an interview for the debut taping of a new Heritage Radio Network Show, The Food Seen.  I was honored to be included in the group with Quentin Bacon, Gabriele Stabile, Marcus Nilsson and Francesco Tonelli discussing our experiences in food photography.  The interviewer was Michael Harlan Turkell, a photographer and photo editor from Edible Brooklyn and Edible New York whose own Back of the House series of photographs have become a mainstay of those magazines.  I don’t want to give away too much but when the interview runs and the podcast becomes available on iTunes I will pass along the information.  I will say that I have met many photographers in this business and this group can be summed up simply by describing all of these men as true gentlemen.

And, on May 22 I will be appearing at Uncorked! 2010, a food and wine festival at Historic Richmondtown on Staten Island.  I will be conducting a food photography and styling demonstration and then fielding questions about photography from the audience.  We will be using food and wine available at the event and making pictures that will be displayed on a big screen and discussed.  Come and watch the process from start to finish.

We also threw a Mother’s Day panini party for mom.  The chicken parmigiano panini was the favorite.  I simply poached the chicken breasts and made the tomato sauce the night before…bought some quality mozzerella and Percorino Romano cheeses and Italian bread…assembled and ate.

I also ate at a few standout restaurants in the past few weeks…most notably… Kuma Inn..on Ludlow Street.  A 20 seat, hole in the wall tapas style Thai/Philipino-fusion restaurant.  It’s BYOB and if you can make a reservation that is preferable considering there is no bar or booze to occupy your wait.

Also, check out Mark, a slider joint on St. Mark’s…went there after Iron Man 2 and a bucket of popcorn and it provided the perfect capper, along with a Sixpoint Ale to a night of frivolity.  Also making really great burgers, including a duck burger is Mikey’s on Ludlow…worth a visit.

So, sorry about the layoff…but hopefully this…and a little food porn gives you a bit to chew on for a while.
